Why risk putting an #executive in front of an incisive journalist when there’s a gentler route? One word: credibility. The more credible the #journalist the more trust in your message. That said, many variables inform decisions on media interviews. And many channels exist to go direct to your audiences and should be considered as part of your overall #publicrelations & #communications strategy. Ellen Huet Bloomberg News

I get to talk to dozens of PR folk every weekMany of them are pitching podcasts for the first timeIt's important to layout the similarities between pods and trad media, so they have proper expectations and understanding of the medium.Similarities:1️⃣ Compelling Narrative: Both require crafting a compelling story or angle that is interesting and relevant to the audience. The pitch should highlight what makes the client or their message unique and why it would be of interest to the audience.2️⃣ Understanding the Audience: It’s crucial to understand the target audience for both podcasts and traditional media outlets. The pitch should be tailored to the interests, concerns, and needs of the audience, whether it’s a niche podcast listenership or a broader traditional media audience.3️⃣ Research and Customization: In both cases, research is essential to identify the right platforms and hosts or journalists who are most likely to be interested in the story. Customizing the pitch to align with their past work, interests, and the type of content they produce can increase the chances of success.4️⃣ Building Relationships: Establishing and maintaining good relationships with podcast hosts, producers, journalists, and editors is important in both arenas. Networking and regular interaction can lead to more opportunities for clients to be featured.5️⃣ Follow-Up and Professionalism: Following up after sending a pitch, while being respectful of the recipient’s time and workload, is key in both scenarios. Professionalism in communication and meeting deadlines, providing necessary materials, and being available for interviews or further questions is crucial.6️⃣ Timing and Relevance: The timing of the pitch can significantly affect its success, so it’s important to align the pitch with current trends, news cycles, or events in both podcasting and traditional media contexts.7️⃣ Multi-Platform Strategy: Often, successful pitches in both domains can lead to cross-promotional opportunities, such as sharing the podcast episode or media appearance across social media, websites, and other channels to maximize reach. The core principles of creating a persuasive pitch, understanding the audience, conducting thorough research, building relationships, and maintaining professionalism are consistent across both podcast and traditional media pitching.Find the differences in the comments below 👇#podcasts#earnedmedia#publicrelations#pr
