Eggnog Hot Chocolate (1)

I love holiday drinks! Eggnog and Hot Chocolate are two of my favorite drinks ever and when you combine the two you get something absolutely magical.

I love making homemade Hot Chocolate and I also love Homemade Eggnog they are easy recipes and you can really get crazy with the two.

Especially when you combine them together like I did with this Eggnog Hot Chocolate Recipe! Simple ingredients make one seriously delicious drink.

You get that rich thickness from the eggnog and that subtle chocolate from the hot chocolate and top it off with some whipped cream and cinnamon or nutmeg.

A family favorite, we drink this from Thanksgiving all through the New Year, we just cannot get enough.

If you have to make one holiday drink this year, it has to be this Eggnog Hot Chocolate, trust me no one will be disappointed.

Some of my favorite drink recipes that we have on our site include Homemade Eggnog, Italian Hot Chocolate and Slow Cooker Wassail.

CAN I ADD ALCOHOL TO THIS?

Yes! We do that from time to time and switch up some of the alcohol that we use.

We have used rum, peppermint schnapps, baileys, etc. Really you can add anything that you’d think would complement this recipe if you want to spike it!

You can even substitute some of the vanilla extract with rum extract if you want the flavor without the alcohol.

CAN I MAKE HOMEMADE EGGNOG FOR THIS RECIPE?

Absolutely, if you are an eggnog maker then go ahead and make some Homemade Eggnog for this recipe.

WHAT ELSE CAN I TOP THIS RECIPE WITH?

While we do the traditional whipped cream for this recipe there are other things that you can add in addition to or instead:

  1. Marshmallows
  2. Caramel Sauce
  3. Chocolate Syrup
  4. Mini Chocolate Chips
  5. Sprinkles
  6. Candy Canes
  7. Chocolate Shavings

Whatever you think would taste amazing alongside the flavors you can add for an extra touch!

DO I HAVE TO USE MILK IN THIS EGGNOG HOT CHOCOLATE?

If you want a more rich recipe (it is already rich the way it is) you can add some heavy cream or half and half in place of the milk.

HOW TO STORE:

This recipe only makes enough for about two 8 ounce drinks, but if you have some leftover of you plan on making a larger batch to save for later it needs to be refrigerated.

You can pour into a lidded pitcher and place in the refrigerator and it should last for up to 5-7 days.

Once cooled the chocolate is most likely to separate to the top. This is fine, when you go to reheat it just place back in a saucepan and slowly heat up over low heat stirring to recombine the two ingredients.

We do not recommend freezing this recipe.

TIPS AND TRICKS:

  • For a thicker hot chocolate, half & half or heavy cream may be used instead of milk.
  • This recipe makes two 8+ ounce portions or three 5+ ounce portions.
  • Other toppings can be added, see above for ideas.
  • You can use homemade eggnog or store bought, that is up to you.
  • You can easily double this recipe to serve larger crowds.
  • Any portions not consumed need to be refrigerated, see above on how to do that.
  • We DO NOT recommend freezing this recipe.
