She often appears on CNN International shows, as well as HLN’s “Weekend Express” and CNN’s “New Day Weekend.” She worked as a meteorologist at local stations in Atlanta, Nashville, and Chattanooga, Tennessee, before she joined CNN in June 2015. She has reported on blizzards, wildfires, hurricanes, and floods on The Weather Channel. For her coverage of Hurricane Dorian in the Bahamas in 2019, she was nominated for an Emmy.

During the Super Tornado Outbreak of April 2011, over 350 tornadoes hit the Southeastern United States in just four days. On April 27, alone, over 200 of those tornadoes hit. Because she studied environmental science in college, she has covered about more than just climate change. She has also reported about volcanoes, earthquakes, and other natural disasters. Before there, she worked at WXIA-TV as a meteorologist in Atlanta, Georgia for almost three years. She also worked at WKRN-TV in the Greater Nashville Area, TN from January 2011 to June 2012.

In 2013, an EF3 tornado hit El Reno, Oklahoma, affecting several storm chasers. The storm rolled and threw his SUV into a field about 180 yards away. The roof fell on his team, hurting them badly. The driver, Austin Anderson, broke several bones. In the end, Reed Timmer and his SRV Dominator team found them. They were storm chasing for Oklahoma City’s KFOR-TV when they saw Bettes’s damaged SUV and saw that it had marks from The Weather Channel on it. They pulled over to help the Oklahoma Highway Patrol and other first responders, but they had to leave to get away from the worst of the storm.

Tim Samaras, his son Paul, and Carl Young, all of whom worked for TWISTEX, were killed by the same tornado. Someone from the area named Richard Charles Henderson was also killed in the same area as the TWISTEX crew when he decided to follow the storm.
